Off to a good start

Vacation + Sundays = :)

Today started off with a nice sleep in followed by some homework I had to do. There was coffee and a big bowl of grapes to help make it bearable, though!

Check out my reflection in the camera! :)

The sunrise over the ocean also helped…

Sherry (Dad’s fiance) and I went to the gym here together. Which is ballin’. Like the best travelling gym I’ve ever been too. A slap in the face with this hip, but I’m looking on the bright side.

I was feeling hip good so I rode the spin bike for a bit. Kept it relatively light and made sure I warmed up and cooled down, but I still feel something today that makes me REALLY sad.

I also did my physio and some stretching/foam rolling. Why am I not better yet? Sorry, done whining. I just have a lot of anxiety (plus frustration at seeing people running in the perfect weather) about when it will ever not hurt to run. Anyone literally thought something would never get better? Cuz it doesn’t hurt when I’m just hanging out…but then when I do something, it comes back. Sucks. I checked out the return to activity protocol in The Athlete’s Guide to Recovery (good book, BTW!). It says to start with a kind of jumping/plyo session to see if it’s pain free. Then to progress to walk/run. For 8 weeks. Then to spend about 8 weeks working up to 45 minutes of running. That will get me to June. Can I be ready for my half IM? I guess I have to decide here and now that the answer is yes. 22 weeks is long enough for me to recover from this, get back to training, and to build up. And that’s that. Mel always reminds me:

“Those who think they can and those who think they can’t are both right.”

Soooo there.

After my workout, I had some breakfast. I was excited to try the Love Grown granola that Sherry picked out, mostly because Tina is always showing it on her blog! I added an apple, some raw almonds I brought, and some skim milk.

We went downtown today to the little shops (The Strand)–mostly gift shops (so some of you should be excited ;) ). The sun was out, which was perfect, and it’s Mardi Gras so there were some drunk people and a concert. Random. But awesome.

We ate out at a seafood/steak house…I had salmon with coconut rice and asparagus! The rice wasn’t my cup of tea, but the rest of the meal was great.

Christine shared taffy (peanut butter) for dessert.

I bought myself new Tom’s. They are WILD for summer. And they’re vegan, according to the website.

I can’t wait to wear them.

When we got home, we went for a long walk on the beach into the sunset. I’d say it was romantic but I was the third wheel to my sister and her husband…it happens. I always wish I had a significant other when I’m on these trips. Sigh*

I found a lobster claw.

And some crabs. No joke. I’m bringing em back. ;)

Ohhhh, it was a good day!

Now we’re going to start dinner–burgers (veggie for me!), kale chips (my contribution), corn, and maybe some salad. Noms.

How was your Sunday?
When’s the last time you played at the beach?

  1. OMG i love those Toms. I just got my first pair for christmas and I love how they feel and the environmentalism, but those flowery ones are the cutest happiest things ever!! The texas beach looks absolutely gorgeous….I bet if you’re gonna third-wheel it, the beach is the best place to do it :-) and such yummy noms! How’d you like the Love Grown Granola?? I see so many bloggers are obsessed with it and I really wan to try it, but I can’t find it anywhere, sad. And sad…your hip! noooo! did it hurt during your spin or after?? maybe try elliptical (or have you already decided that doesn’t work)? Maybe stick to the pool? GRRR so frustrating….and yes, for real I have TOTALLY felt as though something would “never heal” – it’s funny, I’ve had a total of three injuries in my ENTIRE running career (shin splints five years ago, the ankle thing this july which didn’t resolve till december, and now this hip flexor thing), none of them were bone problems (its a small miracle I haven’t fractured myself….yet haha), and these past two have seemed to just take light years to heal!! I’m working on being more patient…it sounds counterintuitive, but I think what’s helping me is just taking a mental break from training as well as physical. Instead of being obsessed over my injury, always putting pressure on myself to “heal already”, worrying about when I can “try running” again….I’m just going to take a chill pill this week and think about school, friends, future life plans, and (maybe) a return to blogging (or at least a much-needed revamp of the blog lol). I think if I just “forget about it” for awhile, it may not ACTUALLY heal any faster, but it’ll seem like it, ya know? I’m going to experiment with that in any case. Anyway we WILL be better enough to ride the Grand Fondo Colnago Philadelphia TOGETHER!!!!!!! OMG that would be the most epic blogger meet-up EVER! And for the Athlete’s Guide to Recovery….I think that plan is a little skewed. I don’t know anyone who’s ever come back to running that slowly (especially since 1. you’re doing your strengthening exercises and 2. your issue isn’t a bone issue). Your body will “remember” what to do much faster than that, so yes, you WILL be ready for your race!! :-D

jeez I always write you novels hahaha. <3

    • Thank you for telling me that. Because I was a little bit worried. I tried jumping up and down on one leg and it felt okay today. I also did a few lunges (Which used to KILL) and ditto! I am goigbn to maybe go on the elliptical later this week, just for a bit. I think that could be smarter than walk/jogging at this point, but I felt good running around chasing my crazy golf shots today. :)

I love getting your comments because they’re like getting a big message and I feel special! So please keep it up ;)

I think your plan for the week sounds good–and the fact that you want to do that is so huge! You go girl. I miss your blog, I will not lie. I have to hold back from tweeting at you or sending you a message to start it again because blogging should be something you do cuz ya wanna, but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE if you got back to posting.

Bringgggg on the Half IM and the Gran Fondo! There’s always the MEdio Fondo, and yeah! I was born in Westchester, FYI! IS that near you!?

  2. The fact that you’re starting to feel better is SUCH a good sign. You will definitely be ready for your half IM this summer! :D

Also I totally know how you feel about being third wheel – I feel like I’m always third wheel to my YOUNGER sister and her boyfriend. Pathetic, right? :P

  3. I MISS YOU!! Those toms look unreal, summer is officially here whether the snow likes it or not :)

    • Awe…I miss you too girl! I loved your sunday funday pic! LOL. I cannot wait to be back in London at the same time as I’m loving Reading Week. Family Day is making me miss my tri family, I guess! :) I can’t wait for summer, esp since I’m in London. It’s official! :)
